BH Cosmetics Essential Eye Set
BH Cosmetics Eye Essential- 7 piece Brush Set
If you haven’t heard of BH Cosmetics then you probably haven’t been watching YouTube Beauty Guru’s. BH Cosmetics collaborated with Missy Lynn & most recently Carli Bybel. BH Cosmetics is an affordable makeup brand, the majority of the brands products are slightly above drugstore price, but many of their products are in a great, affordable price range.
The Eye Essential set includes:
101 Blending Brush
The blending brush is surprisingly good. When it first arrived, I thought this brush was a little lacking in the hair count department HOWEVER it is a great blending brush. This is a phenomenal brush if your looking for a tool to help you place a transition shade in the crease or if your looking to buff out a color.
102 Large shader brush
They meant it when they said “Large shader brush” this brush is huge. In fact it’s far too large to use as a shader or packing brush to pack on a lid color. In all honesty this is the worst brush in the set. It’s far too large to be an eye brush. Since the brush is so large I use it as a spot concealer brush. Its synthetic bristles are great for tackier concealers.
103 Small shader brush
This is a true shader brush. Its perfect for packing on a lid color, using a pigment and works great with baked eye shadows when wetted. Everyone needs a shader brush. It’s a natural bristle, so its best to wash it with a mild soap meant for cleaning makeup brushes.
104 Angled blending brush
This brush is similar to the shader brush except that its bristles are cut in a diagonal line leaving the hairs at an angle. Its great for putting color in the outer v of the eye or even for diffusing eye shadow in the crease.
105 Pencil Brush
Pencil brushes are “newer” to a lot of people, but they have been used for a long time in the MUA Industry. It’s a versatile brush, its great for smoking out the bottom lash line, creating a cat eye and even deepening the crease. My favorite way to use this brush is by dipping the tip of the brush into a dark pigment and creating a “cut crease” which is an eye shadow look made famous by Gwen Stefani and Christiana Aguilera. One other mention, the BH 105 is pretty much the same thing as the Morphe 431. This brush is basically an exact dupe. It has the same length of hair, same density and same softness. This is a GREAT brush that EVERYONE needs in his or her collection.
106 Fine Liner Brush
The fine liner brush is not “fine” enough to use for a winged liner (in my opinion). To make a great winged liner the secret to my success is using a TINY (I literally mean tiny) brush. While this one is too large for that it’s great for placing an inner corner highlight (highlighting the tear duct). With its synthetic bristles it can pick up any kind of shadow even including the ColorPop shadows. I personally love to use this brush for that- but lets be honest the brush title is a little misleading. This brush isn’t for liner, but that’s ok.
107 Small Angled brush
The small angled brush is exactly what it says. It’s a small brush that has had its bristles cut on an angle. Its great for filling in the brows with a powder or pomade and it even works for taking a black shadow and creating a “Smokey liner” effect.
BH Cosmetics gets a B+ for packaging. The weight and color of the handles are great. It’s a sleek black paint that’s easy to clean. Here are my qualms with the packaging. I am a makeup fanatic. I have many brushes. It drives me nuts when brushes from the same company and line are all different lengths. What that means to me, as the consumer is that not all brushes are created equally. When one brush is much taller than the other, it’s hard to pick out whatever brushes your looking for when they are all different lengths. This is a simple engineering fix. The second issue I have with the brushes is that I would have preferred the gold accent to be a true gold color or silver, not the macaroni and cheese color it is. With the gold accent being a crayon color it makes the brushes feel a little like you should give them to your daughter to play with. As a consumer I never want my products to feel like play makeup.
My over all Review
I may have just sounded a little harsh with my thoughts on the packaging… however that doesn’t make me like these brushes any less. They are great quality, for a great price. I ordered mine from BH Cosmetics.com for 12 dollars. It retails for 18.00 but BH Cosmetics has several sales a year if that’s too high a price point for you. That is a steal for seven useable brushes! While technically I have concluded there are only 6 actual eye brushes- the 102 large shader brush is really great for concealer but it’s not an eye shadow brush. I was so excited to find a dupe for the Morphe 431- that alone makes this set well worth its price.
